Driving Day 4

View from the motel

Another view from the motel
Saturday morning started out in Arizona, so I got to see lots of the scenery in day light.  Here are some of the million pictures I took.  Again, they don't show how truly awesome the views were.  Corey had never been out in this area, and was for some reason not awestruck by the scenery.  I've come to the conclusion that he must have no soul :)  If you haven't figured it out yet, you can click on a picture and it'll give you a slideshow thingy of the bigger versions of them.

Magic floating clothes basket in the sky!

Watch for Moose?  Elk?

Stupid semi ruining my picture!

And we made it into California!!!!

Soon after my tripometer hit 999.9 for the second time

At least it happened while going 65 as opposed to 80

Cow was not a fan of being stuffed in the car for 4 days

We stopped for lunch at Juicy's Famous River Cafe in Needles, CA.  I don't know why it's famous, but it was another fun little place.  And better than eating at chain fast food restaurants the whole way down.  And, Saturday night, we finally made it to our new home!!!!

YAY!  No more driving!!!!

Driving Day 3

Because of the rain, Friday started as a gloomy day in Oklahoma.

But we made it to Texas!

We stopped for gas and food  at a rest stop in Texas, where you can still smoke inside.  I'd gotten so used to Michigan's smoking ban that it was really weird walking in and seeing people smoking and ash trays on the tables.

Funny sign in the rest stop restroom

Corey's car about to enter New Mexico

Scenery in New Mexico
We stopped in Tucumcari, NM for gas, and discovered they had a dinosaur museum.  So of course we checked it out.  Here are a few photos from the adventure.  Facebook friends can see the whole album of 44 if they really want.

It says Jurassic Wrestler, not Boxer

???

He was not impressed with Corey's drawing
I managed some pictures while driving through New Mexico, but I really wish I could have stopped every 10 minutes to get out and take pictures.  I also wish the pictures looked as awesome as the scenery actually was.

Sun setting in NM when we stopped for dinner
We made it to Arizona.  Unfortunately it was dark so I missed some of the scenery.  I love AZ.  I went there once in High School and loved it so much I wanted to move there.  Maybe after becoming a famous costume designer, I'll retire to AZ.  Friday night we stayed in Flagstaff, AZ.

Driving Day 2

Thursday morning we ate breakfast at the Hen House which shared a parking lot with our Motel 6

Food was ok, but mostly it was just a fun looking place
The sky over Illinois
We drove through St. Louis.

The arch
Kleenex box getting in the way of my photo

A beautiful day for driving
In St. Louis they have “St. Louis Bread Co.” rather than Panera Bread Co. Same billboards, same logo, just different name. It's weird.

Thursday night we ran into rain in Oklahoma which put us behind. My tripometer hit 999.9 for the first time though! And we made it to Elk City, OK for the night.

no, I definitely didn't take this photo while driving 65mph...

Driving Day 1

Rather than being stressed out, being homeless, unemployed, and moving away from friends and family to the other sided of the country has apparently made me super laid back.

The theme of last weekend was pretty much never being on time anywhere. The Friday night before we left we had an informal going away party, then Saturday through Tuesday was spent driving around the state visiting friends and family. We left late Saturday to our first destination, left late Monday for our second, and left late Tuesday to come back to Grand Rapids. But for the most part, we got everything accomplished. There were a few people I wish I could have seen in Battle Creek, and I wish I had made it into work to pick up my paycheck sooner to say a more formal good-bye, but it was nice to see everyone I did get to see. Tuesday night after we got back a friend took us out to dinner. While finishing up there another stopped by. Then we found out another was playing an open mic night, so we stopped by there where yet another friend came out to see us. At some point in the night, my traveling companion and I looked at each other and realized we weren't going to be leaving as early as we wanted to in the morning. It ended up being a LOT later than we planned after sleeping in and all of the last minute things. Plus it took FOREVER to load up our cars. But we made it out, and our cars seemed to be running fine.

My traveling companion Corey, looking a bit claustrophobic

AHH!  It's attacking me!

Ready to take over California
Something cool I saw while driving Wednesday night, it had to have been airport towers or something. Both sides of the road were filled with red lights, then they'd all suddenly disappear, then reappear. Like I said, most likely blinking tower lights, but it looked really cool. Too bad I couldn't get a video of it because it's hard to explain.  Just after that we stopped at an awesome little 50's themed diner. We unknowingly stopped right as they were closing, but they let us put in an order quick, and stayed around a bit so we could eat and just sit for a while. It had cool decor too. Sadly, no time to take pictures. I'll have to figure out what city it was in so you can all go eat there if you're ever near by.

Wednesday night we stayed at the nicest Motel 6 I've ever seen, in Springfield, IL.

Huge and super nice looking on the outside

We Made It!

Just a quick update to let you all know we made it.  I'm having issues with my computer connecting to the internet, so no full update or pictures yet.  Hopefully we'll get it figured out because I have a LOT to post!

To Do List #1

Things to do when I get to CA (in no particular order):

  • Unpack and get settled in
  • Get a table and chair for sewing
  • Find a job
  • Watch the sunset over the ocean

One week from today I'll be on the road...
